What to text when she says she doesn't know what she's looking for

People who say they don't know what they're looking for are often the ones least willing to pretend. They could have picked 'looking for a relationship' or 'just here for fun' like everyone else. Instead, they said something harder: the truth. That usually means she's either newly single and figuring it out, she's been burned before and is wary of declaring intentions, or she operates on instinct instead of categories.

This is different from someone who ignores the question or gives a canned answer. She's actually engaging with it. The uncertainty you're reading is not a wall. It's an invitation to help her figure it out by getting to know her.

Your job is to do two things at once. Normalize the uncertainty and move the conversation forward into specifics about her. Start by not pretending you have perfect clarity either. Most people don't, and saying so sounds like you're lying. Then ask about something that reveals how she actually thinks or what she actually cares about. Ask what brought her to the app, what she's been up to, what happened in her last thing, or what she's avoiding. These questions get past the abstract and into the real.

You've started a real back-and-forth now, and the next three exchanges matter more than they would with someone who had clear intentions. She's still getting a read on you. If she doesn't reply to your question within 24 hours, she's either not interested or not checking the app much. Either way, move on.

Don't send a second message asking if she's there. Don't try to clarify. If she replies, great. If not, you have your answer. The point of this kind of message is to get her engaged enough to keep talking. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
